If you want to get away from it
all, see unspoiled beauty, meet genuinely nice locals and live
inexpensively for part of the year or year-round, consider Koro Island
in Fiji. Koro's Seaview Estates subdivision has grown to be a place of gathering for
those seeking refuge from the mad crowds and the hustle and bustle of
our cities. It has become a haven for both those seeking a simpler
lifestyle as well as for those that like a bit of luxury.
Totaling close to 700 acres,
with about 400 acres for sale to individuals, the development is attempting to become self-sustainable by planting
gardens, a community center and a small resort. Owners are able to
have full freehold title and build up to two homes on one-acre
parcels. Many neighbors have already moved in and friendships are
growing, more than 20 homes have been built as of 8-2002. If you are
interested in learning more about Koro Island, contact us by
Email. Owners come from
Australia, New Zealand, the United States and all over Europe. Many
build vacation homes, some stay permanently on Koro.
About Koro:
Koro Island is the 6th largest
of the 300+ islands in Fiji. It is located in the Lomaiviti group in
the Koro Sea. Of the 300 islands, about 100 support populations.
Koro has 13 villages and a population of about 3200 of which 99% are
native Fijian. Most Fijians on the island speak both Fijian and
English. The island is shaped like a shark tooth - about 6 miles wide
at the top and tapering along 10 miles to a point. The locals are
respectful and genuine and visitors are encouraged to treat them with
respect for their culture and traditions. Even though you are a
landowner, you are still a guest in their word; so tread lightly and
return every smile. It is us that need to adapt to their pace, not the
other way around.
There is a regularly scheduled Air
Fiji flight from Suva to Koro. The ferry docks at the island
arriving twice a week. Charter flights on a float plane will land you
right in front of the resort.
The island is quite rural. The resort and the developing residential
complex surrounding it are the only parts of the island that are not
owned by native Fijians. There are a few stores and food is supplied
by the resort and by the many gardens. All other supplies come by
ferry.
